Iraq V2.0

(Prologue:  This edition may appear to go against the grain of yesterday's post, but I assure you they are on the same track.  Please do not confuse my dislike of President Obama with my patriotism and love of my country.)

I was in the service during "Iraq V1.0", then called Desert Shield and finally Desert Storm, and volunteered my services and my life to the cause.

Many of us at the time, knew it was a bad idea to stop the war at the time the "powers-that-be" decided to call it quits.

Unfortunately, here we are, doing it all over again.  "Iraq V2.0", AKA Operation Iraqi Freedom or whatever you want to call it, is a vital necessity to the United States.  Yes, vital.

To all of you whining babies out there that simply have nothing else to complain about, get a fucking life!  Do you really not remember a certain Tuesday in September, 2001?  Wait, I know.  Since it didn't affect you personally, it's not a mission important enough to support.  Is that it?

Many people know that if we pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan now, we'll be playing "Iraq V3.0" later, perhaps after another major attack on the USA stirs us up again.  Can we really afford to wait for that??
No!  We need to truly finish what we started.  Too many people blame George W. Bush for the whole WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) thing.  Do any of you really think he conjured up the WMD scenario all by himself?  He has advisors for exactly this sort of thing!  If his "intelligence" community tells him there are WMD's in Iraq, he tells us there are WMD's in Iraq.  He didn't just wake up one morning, after we were attacked on our own soil, and say "Hey, I know!  Lets lie to the public and tell them there are WMD's in Iraq so they will get behind us and support us!"  That my friends, is a total load of crap.  If President Bush tells us there are WMD's in Iraq, it's because he thinks there are WMD's in Iraq.  If you really feel the need to blame someone, blame our "intellegence" people.

Even if it were true (which it is not), he shouldn't HAVE to lie to us to get us to support him!  WE WERE ATTACKED!  Right here at home, against CIVILIAN targets specifically.  That all by itself should make your blood boil enough to join the cause.  You should be so pissed off that, if you were in charge, you would nuke every hole Osama bin Laden could even possibly be hiding in!  Of course, that is extreme, but I hope you get my point.

If you buy a used car, and after the deal is closed the salesperson says "You know what?  I'll even throw in some free tires", this is exactly how you should feel about our current situation.  Osama bin Laden IS the target, and Saddam Hussein was the "free tires" bonus.

I am a Patriot.  A true Patriot.  Not an "I'm a patriot when and where it suits my needs" fake-triot.  I have always supported my President, virtually unconditionally.  Granted there are some decisions the President makes that throw me off balance a little...remember Monica Lewinsky?  Other than that, I support my President because it is the best thing for my country.  I served under many presidents who held rank as my Commander In Chief, and some of them earned it outright.  Others did not, but it does my country no good if I sit back and speak badly of my nation's leader.

And so it is with President Obama.  I may not like the guy personally, but I will do my best to support him in whatever the future holds for all of us, for better or worse.
And, if I catch you speaking poorly about my President?  That is your right, but if you hate the guy so much, I hear Mexico and Canada have some vacancies -so get the FWHAT OUT!

I love my country.  So much that in my younger days I even volunteered to die for it.  If the fight ever comes home...again...I will be there protecting my United States to the bitter end.

If, Heaven forbid, my own government should ever perform in a manner that goes against the wellbeing of this country, it is my duty and privilege to take action there, too, to protect my nation "from all enemies, foreign and domestic".

The position of President is one of a leader.  A leader leads - a dictator takes control.  What I am saying is that we should never expect the President to "fix" our problems all by himself.  He should, instead, lead by example and guide us toward being the nation I know we can be.

If you have a problem or complaint, do something (legal) about it!  Don't just sit on your ass disrespecting your elected President, waiting for him/her to make it all better.  We ALL have the responsibility to maintain our status as the "Greatest Nation On Earth".

NObama?

"Bittersweet" sums up my feelings about this last presidental election as well as anything else, I suppose.

I am extremely impressed with our nation for electing our first black/African-American/whatever-the-current-PC-term-is President, I really am.  It shows that, hopefully, our country can finally look at the issues at hand rather than at the color of someone's skin.  Congratulations, USA, we have reached a major milestone here!

That is the "sweet".  The "bitter" is the fact that Obama was elected at all!  Yes, I voted for the "other guy"...sue me.  As is my right, I really do not like Nobama bin Laden.  I feel that he lacks the experience and the decision-making skill needed to hold the position of President.  At the same time, I hope he proves me wrong, and becomes one of the greatest Presidents we've had.

Face it, elections these days are more of an "I voted for candidate X so candidate Y wouldn't win" scenario.  When is the last time we truely felt connected to a President?  When did we cease to care?  It really doesn't help when our own elected state officials - who are supposed to be representing their constituants - vote against the people they represent.  Electoral votes are where the money is, and what we the people think is vastly unimportant by comparison.

For the last ten Presidents or so, President Reagan excluded, the masses have not really stood behind our leader.  When Kennedy was shot (I will not open that can of worms at this time), a great feeling of loss swept across the nation.  How many people would have wept for Nixon or Clinton, four?  Maybe five, but family members do not count.

What we need is a President that offers encouragement, advice, and honest commitment to our nation.  Of course, President Obama cannot please everyone, but for Heaven's sake - please try!  When is the last time a President tried to please the people over pleasing the establishment?  I think President Reagan tried his best, though even his hands were tied when it came to matters that threatened the agenda of the government.

The problem is this:  We keep electing politicians instead of citizens.  This is what made Ronald Reagan great over everything else - he was one of us.

Until WE say "No more!", WE can never be in control.  Until WE put PEOPLE into the Senate and Congress and the White House instead of politicians who harbor their own personal agendae, we will continue this downward sprial of distrust in our Government, displeasure with our current economic state, until we can feel safe at home and in public, and so much more.

No, really!

Yesterday's blog brought up another valid point - companies that would have you think they are interested in the environment instead of their bottom line.

We've all seen it.  Hotels/motels that hang the sign "Help us save energy and water resources by only replacing the towels you need", followed by "throw the towels you need replaced onto the floor, and hang the rest" or something to that effect.

What they are really saying is "Help us save money on our utility bills.  Stop making us wash ALL of your towels!  Just because you dried your hands on it once doesn't mean it needs to be washed!"

From the looks of some of the seedier motels we've seen, true energy/environment conservation is the least of their concerns.

Just yesterday I saw a sign on a gas station pump attempting to sell their customers a reusable travel coffee mug, stating that the mug is "Earth Friendly", and that "By using a reusable mug for your beverage, you help reduce waste and save our environment".  While this is true, their real intentions are centered around the $2.49 they get to charge for the mug.  If they really wanted to save the environment and reduce waste, wouldn't they give the mug away or at least charge less for it, say $0.99?  I mean, they are saving money if you buy the mug by not having to provide you with disposable cups and lids, and in some cases sleeves, every time you purchase a drink from them, so why do they charge us for the mug at all?

These companies are using the environment as an excuse to save themselves some money, pure and simple.  Not only is this practice unethical, but it makes it hard to see the companies and organizations that really are trying to help.

Speaking of Disneylandfill...

Apparently, Disney®'s dismal look into the future of our trash-filled planet in the film Wall·E is, at least in part, Disney's own fault.

Did you know that when you go to see a Disney RealD® 3-D movie, you are forced to purchase a new set of RealD® glasses each and every time you view the movie?  You could stay at the theater all day watching Wall·E in 3-D and end up with more RealD® glasses than you know what to do with.  Heck, I have over 30 pairs myself!

In their defense, Disney® has taken an extremely small step in a direction that only benefits Disney® - at select theaters you can "recycle" your glasses right after the movie, though you gain nothing in return for the glasses you just paid for!

When you purchase your tickets for such a movie, you are charged for the glasses whether you brought your own or not.  According to the theaters showing these films, this additional charge is for the glasses, not a surcharge for viewing the movie in RealD® 3-D or for anything else.  Does Disney® really think we are going to say "no thank you" to glasses we must pay for, just so Disney® can save a few bucks?  No thanks!

As for the "recycling" of the glasses after a show, I personally witnessed a theater employee dumping a bag of them into their dumpster.  I can only assume that Disney® thinks "recycling" means dumping tons of garbage into out landfill sites and then waiting for the material to regenerate into something more useful...say, in about a zillion years from now.

Is there a "quick-fix" for this?  For starters, Disney® could discount the glasses fee for customers that "recycle" their own specs by using them for more than one movie (or at least stop telling us that the fee is for the glasses, and is a RealD® 3-D experience surcharge instead...glasses included, if you need them).  Or, Disney® could charge a "deposit" for the glasses, some of which would be returned to the user at the end of a movie when the glasses were returned.  So far as "sanitary conditions" are concerned, there must be a better solution than simply throwing the glasses away or even "recycling" them.

To top it off, Disney® doesn't seem to see the flip-side to all of this.  Right now, less people are willing to see the RealD® 3-D movies when they realize they have to keep buying glasses - I have seen people drop out of line once they find out the RealD® 3-D movies costs more than their 2-D brothers.  On the other hand, I believe that more people are willing to visit a theater to see a RealD® 3-D movie than the 2-D version of the same film.  Most of us simply wait for the DVD release these days anyway, don't we?  Blockbuster, Netflix, and other DVD sales confirm this.  But RealD® 3-D!  That is an experience we can only enjoy at the theater, which increases theater's revenue just by offering the RealD® 3-D version of the film.

Hey, Disney®...are you listening?

We'll start this Blog with a tribute to President Obama...may alien life find him useful somewhere else.

Please hang on as we prepare to discuss guns, girls, the freedom of breastfeeding in public (and on the web), and any other stupid things that people are doing or complaining about these days.
