The President's Presence

Blindly following our nation's leaders is never a good idea, obviously.  However, "What happens in the White House should stay in the White House", or something to that effect, can become good policy, and beneficial to our nation's success.

For instance, in the good old days when a President, etc., did something naughty, the Secret Service (or whoever) would "clean up" the mess.

In today's media-charged internet world, however, every single thing is reported down the the most minute detail.  When President Clinton played, uh...hide-and-go-suck with Ms. Lewinsky, the media spared us nothing of the gory story.

OK, now it's time to look at the facts:
  1. Bill Clinton is a man (so I hear), and men tend to think with their little head.
  2. President Clinton is also a person, and not just a figurehead and one of our country's more embarassing Presidents.
  3. People, by our very nature, make mistakes (yes, you too).
  4. Most "normal" people aren't dragged up and down shards of broken glass for the delight of the masses (and the profit of the media).
The point I am trying to make is this - we wasted how many man-hours and tax dollars just to ridicule our country's elected leader and the bimbo dumb enough to get caught up in it all?  We probably don't want to know the answer to that question.

Honestly, it would have been better to make the problem "just go away".  No, I don't mean in a Sopranos sort of way, but our nation and the people therein really did not need to know about any of it.

It undermines the entire system of government - a government that definitely needs no additional undermining.  Besides, by the time we found out about it, it was already over.  That is obviously a load of shit that cannot be put back into the horse (isn't that cruelty to animals anyway?).

We need, as bad as can be, to be able to trust and put our faith in, our President.  I'm sorry, but there it is.  Anything else weakens our great country and serves no useful purpose.  It just lines the pockets of the mega-media empire that already sucks as much cash out of us as they can.

Take a map of your neighborhood and draw a wide circle around your house.  I bet that the vast majority of you cannot place a finger on every single house on, in, or around the circle that does not have a cheating partner in it, even if you don't even know about it.  Hell, most of you have either experienced it and/or committed it.

Does this excuse the President, etc., and give them a golden "Get Out Of Jail Free" card?  No way.  But, weighing one evil against another, I'd much, much rather have a strong nation I can believe in than read some tabloid story about who stained whose dress with what in the White House.

Is this post solely about President Clinton?  Not by a long shot...he is just easier to pick on than other Presidents since his "affairs" were more recent than most.  I personally have nothing against the guy, the exact opposite in fact.  He did a great many things to help the USA, many of which were never even noticed by most citizens.

If you are really that bored, go out and do something good for your country; help the homeless, pick up litter, shave a dog for humanity, whatever.  Either quit bitching, or make a difference yourself.  Worry more about what the President is doing to our taxes and less about what they're doing to their staff.

Stupid Little Crybabies

You suck.  ALL of you suck.  You know who you are.

I'd like to give an example of the way some people view the world, in their sick, perverse little way:

You are visiting the doctor's office after receiving a letter in the mail that you STD/STI test came back positive and he/she did in fact give you the herpes and crabs you deserve.

Scenario #1:  After the usual 4-6 hour wait in the exam room, the doctor comes in and washes his hands.  After thoroughly washing his hands, the Doctor turns off the fuacets and takes a few paper towels to dry his hands.

Scenario #2:  After the usual 4-6 hour wait in the exam room, the doctor comes in and washes his hands.  After thoroughly washing his hands, the Doctor dries his hands then uses the paper towel to turn the water off.

Those of you scratching your heads trying to figure out the difference may go the the head of the class.

The rest of you are complaining that in scenario #1, the Doctor contaminates his clean hands by touching the faucets directly after washing.  At the same time, you are whining that in scenario #2, the Doctor is wasting water by leaving the faucet on while drying his hands, even though this is the best way to keep from re-soiling his hands.

This is a perfect example of what is going on in our nation today.  No matter what anyone does, we go out of our way to find the downside.  This goes for the President of the United States, law enforcement officials, your neighbors, and even the guy next to you in traffic.

Instead of focusing on the negative, be happy with the positive...find the silver lining or whatever.

In scenario #1, be happy that the Doctor didn't use their clean bare hands to turn off the water.  In scenario #2 be happy that the Doctor didn't waste water by leaving it running while they dried their hands.

To those argumentitive jerks that are trying to change my scenarios to fit their needs, FWHAT OFF!  No, there is no automatic sink or towel dispenser.  No, there is no hand sanitizer.  I am basing my scenarios very carefully on my last visit to the Doctor's office, and around scenario #1 which is what really happened.

Baby-Banners

Banning breastfeeding from the Internet is like banning milk from public schools.

What idiot brought up that gem?  Aside from breathing and making babies, there is nothing more natural than a mother nursing her infant.

See what I did there?  I switched from "breastfeeding" to "nursing" easily - we are so ignorant and self-conscious that we had to change the name of breastfeeding to "nursing" so it would not sound so "offensive".

Breastfeeding; there, I said it.  Breasts and babies and mother's milk and boobs and infants and nipples and sucking and feeding.  If you get a rise out of the last sentence (and I use the term loosely), then you are not mature enough to be anywhere near a site that could even possibly show a mom feeding her baby the good old-fashioned way.

Heck, if you are mature enough and are still offended in some perverse way, then don't view movies or photos online that deal with breastfeeding!  Visit Disneylandfill instead.

And The Pig Says...Moooo

No matter what you do, someone will criticize you for it.  The old saying is true; there really is no way to please anyone all of the time, or even everyone at any given time.

The problem with "We The People" of the United States of America though, is that most of the people here actually go out of their way to disagree with anything and anyone they can...it's our national sport apparently.

Not only do you see it every day, you probably do it every day, in one form or another - hey, I'm guilty too.

Here are some examples:
  • Speeding up, even just a little, so the car on the freeway on-ramp cannot get in front of you.
  • Changing lanes in front of someone when coming to a stop light so you are only behind two cars...instead of three.
  • Nothing is ever your fault.  For example, when you get in a minor fender-bender, somehow it is always the other person's fault.
  • Blaming someone else for something that you yourself do, like cussing the guy or gal at the convenience store for not moving his/her car after filling up with gas and then taking their sweet time shopping in the store, then at a later date leaving your own car at the pump while you take your sweet time in the store.  Another example could be honking at the vehicle in front of you for not noticing the traffic light turning green...even though you've done the same thing yourself, even if by accident, while thinking about work, kids, or anything else.
  • Whining about the slob that peed all over the toilet seat at work, although there are times you didn't clean up similarly after yourself on more than one occasion.
The easiest method for ALL of us to make life better for ourselves and everyone else comes from a very long time ago - "put the shoe on the other foot".  It's even easier than it sounds; just think of what the other person would be doing/thinking/screaming if you were in their place and they were in yours.

When you speed up to make that car on the on-ramp get behind you, think about what you would be yelling at the person on the freeway that sped up to cut you off.  MAKE yourself be a little nicer, and slow down just a bit so that the person can merge easier, and hopefully they will remember your act and return it in kind to someone else.  Doing the "right thing" really can be contagious...think about it and I'd bet that you can even think of a time where you softened up a little after someone showed you a little courtesy.  I know I can.

Try a little experiment - attempt to catch yourself automatically getting annoyed and switching to your "pain-in-the-ass-just-like-everybody-else" mode, and then relax a little.  Take a few deep breaths, lay off the caffeine, whatever.
  • Let the car next to you that is trying to get over to your lane change lanes in front of you...it really will not slow you up much more than maybe a few seconds.  Think of how it would make your day if just one person slowed up so you could change lanes without having to force your way over.
  • Let the poor soul that only needs to purchase an item or two in front of you at the checkout line...even if you only have a few items yourself.
  • Don't fight over that sweet parking spot...you know, the one that is a whole two or three spots closer to the door than all the rest.
  • Act like the world doesn't belong to you...leave that public toilet seat the way you would want to find it; put something back where you found it at the store; say "please" and "thank you" more often; leave a slightly better tip than you usually would - a couple of dollars isn't much to you, but it sure makes your waiter/waitress's day a little brighter; hold the door for someone instead of racing to the entrance/exit so you won't have to hold the door; hold the elevator a few seconds more so the person running to get in won't have to wait a few minutes for the next car; actually try not to let your car door hit the vehicle next to yours; pick up that trash that missed the garbage can you threw it at and dispose of it properly; take a whole minute of your day to find a garbage can or ashtray instead of acting like you can throw your trash wherever you like (cigarette butts are litter too!); and so much more.
  • If you happen to finish off the coffee pot or empty the water cooler at work, take the time to make a fresh pot or replace the water jug...you would really be surprised how far that little act of kindness can go.
It all boils down to rerouting your "normal" thoughts and actions to those that focus on other people, instead of just yourself.  This usually requires a conscious attitude correction, but usually results in just a few moments of your time to make someone else's day...which can make you feel better too.

Work on it.  Help a friend work on it.  If even just some of us can redirect our anger and impatience toward something more productive, the world will surely become a friendlier place.
